The Venue
Open since June 2012, Southend Barns is a family-run venue located on what was once a working farm. Influenced by its rural setting and history but with plenty of stylish and contemporary touches, the venue offers a beautiful balance of old meets new.
The expansive open spaces, manicured gardens, and delicate touches of florals add ambience and character to outdoor wedding day dining and photography, offering a timeless and natural element with organic lines and rich, bright green lawns that offset wedding décor to perfection.
We embrace the agricultural heritage of Southend Barns, refurbishing and preserving long-standing structures, yet with all the amenities, personal service, modern facilities, and transformative lighting required to cater to any wedding day aesthetic.
The Venue
Built and run to be as eco-friendly as possible, the wedding barns have been carefully restored to create the perfect setting for a romantic civil ceremony and wedding reception.
Set in luscious landscaped gardens with hidden courtyards and a terrace bar, you and your guests can enjoy a real piece of paradise.
The Threshing Barn
A magnificent space for a wedding reception and party, the Threshing Barn exudes countryside opulence with exposed wooden beams and original features. Offering plenty of flexibility for all sizes and styles of wedding reception, it is the perfect backdrop for your evening celebrations.
A stunning vaulted ceiling brings class and refinement, acting as a wonderful background to draped fabrics, delicate strings of lights, or bold splashes of colour amid your table settings and seating plans.
Our event managers can recommend varied layouts to reflect your perfect wedding, with a large area that can accommodate a wide range of guests, acting as a dining hall for your wedding breakfast, an entertaining space for evening dancing, or as a banquet area for festive or winter-themed occasions.
The Dairy Barn – Ceremony Room
Fully licensed for all civil ceremonies and partnerships, The Dairy Barn has a serene and tranquil ambiance with simple but romantic styling to complement all wedding day themes. An idyllic setting to exchange your vows; the barn can also be used later in the day as another reception space for you and your guests.
We recognise the importance of your ceremony as a central part of your wedding day and love to put extra touches of luxury and exceptional quality to The Dairy Barn with crisp, neutral colours, graceful foliage, and our distinctive farmhouse beams.
Southend Barns can commission bespoke seat labelling for your most important guests or witnesses, lecterns for speeches and registrars, and simply gorgeous ceiling arrangements to make the most of the bright, natural light.
The Secret Garden
The Secret Garden is a fantastic way to create a unique wedding inspired by nature, adding a sunlit sparkle to daytime ceremonies or a space to exchange your vows at sunset with intricate shadows cast by our trimmed hedgerows.
Nestled in a peaceful spot between our alpaca’s field and the flint walls of the Dairy Barn is our outdoor wedding ceremony garden. Lined with elegant concrete benches and surrounded by beautiful borders, the sweeping 50-foot aisle leads to a sheltered pagoda where you will exchange your vows.
Outdoor spaces are versatile and a blank canvas to create a truly individual wedding ceremony or to organise an intimate wedding celebration with your choice of canapes, entertainment, musicians and champagne or locally sourced English sparkling wines.
The Milking Parlour – Bridal Suite
Our bridal suite is the finishing touch to an incredible wedding day, as a quiet spot to reflect, relax and indulge in the memories and experiences you’ll forever associate with your exchange of vows.
Located in its own private courtyard with rose garden and water feature, the bridal suite provides a calm and relaxing space for you to use throughout your special day. The log-fire, luxurious interiors and thoughtful touches also make it a welcoming place to retire at the end of an unforgettable evening with a glass of sparkle. You can also look forward to a freshly prepared Roots breakfast hamper the next morning.
We provide all the facilities you may require and can organise additional seating, refreshments, and glassware as necessary should you wish to reserve this private space.
Mama Lou – Shepherd’s Hut
The epitome of first-class glamping, Mama Lou is a favourite space to enjoy the clean, fresh rural air, disconnect from the world and get back to nature with all the luxuries and personal service you need to make the most of a special occasion.
Set in our alpaca’s grazing field with its own festoon-lit private pathway and garden, our Mama Lou Shepherd’s Hut has been immaculately restored to create a sumptuous and unique retreat. Equipped with everything you could need, you can enjoy a feeling of complete rural escapism as you curl up in front of the fire and listen to the sounds of the countryside. In the fridge you’ll find chilled prosecco, fresh juice and milk for your morning coffee to accompany your breakfast delivery.
The Collecting Yard and Gardens
This spacious and perfectly maintained space is ideal for dancing, entertaining, musical performances, larger wedding parties and evening relaxation, with your choice of seating and dining provided by experienced caterers and staff.
Surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens and picture-perfect hideaways including our resident alpaca’s field, Southend Barns provides a romantic haven all year round. The central courtyard offers a safe and sociable area where you can also find the all-weather Collecting Yard complete with terrace bar, sheltered alfresco seating and roaring fire pit.
Our glorious countryside setting boasts plenty of picturesque backdrops for photos and as evening falls the gardens are romantically lit to create an enchanting evening experience.
